About The Opportunity
The CNC Material Cutter Technologist is responsible for the manufacturing definition and deployment of ply cut electronic data for CNC pre-impregnated material static table cutters. This position will maintain the customer configuration for ply shapes, fiber orientation and quantity. The CNC Material Cutter Process Engineer will develop, maintain, and improve material use optimization techniques by using nesting software. The CNC Material Cutter Process Engineer is part of a shared resource series of CNC static table material cutters which supply multiple programs / values streams. The Process Engineer will ensure the manufacturing system meets stakeholder requirements including; technical compliance; adherence to PE processes and standards and compliance business case (including quality; delivery and cost).
Additional responsibilities include: The investigation, development, implementation, and maintenance of basic quality systems, procedures, methods, action plans, and quality performance reporting by reviewing customer requirements and developing quality plans to ensure the requirements are met. Resolve quality problems and implement corrective action.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Duties and Responsibilities:
Development/Modification of ply shapes from supplied models per customer specifications and GKN Manufacturing Requirements utilizing Catia V5 CPM (Composite Design for Manufacturing)
Develop ply nesting configurations for new composite laminates using Gerber Technology's ply development suite for GERBERcutter DCS 2500 (or equivalent).
Process ply kit requests encompassing quality and continuous improvement optimizations.
Utilize Gerber Technology's (or equivalent) Applications to effectively achieve optimum material usage from twelve (12) inch to ninety-eight (98) inch wide composite material rolls.

UltrQueue nesting program
Maintainkitting functions to automatically label, assign layup order and assign other identifiers to ply cut pieces.
Identifies engineering problems and initiates corrective action to ensure parts are in line with quality standards and production requirements.
Performs effective root cause and corrective action to escapes and non-compliance reports using various quality tools.
Communicates with manufacturing personnel to gain input during ply development.
Interface with customers, suppliers, and government officials.
Delivery of a manufacturing system that fulfills all stakeholder requirements including;
Quality, Health & Safety, design, producibility, business case etc.
Product development including;
Selection of capable manufacturing processes
Validating the capability of the process and/or equipment
Introduction of new technology in line with the Program / Value Stream requirements
Ensure adherence to all applicable Quality processes and procedures.
Support Integrated Product Teams on their technical reviews (internal & external) as required.
Provides direct support to production operation in areas such as ply changes to engineering requirements as temporary nests.
Provides direct support to Gerber Operators during cutting of kits.
Controls the transition of new equipment used for ply development activities from design through change control to verify correctness of equipment.
Provides continuous process improvement through the revision and re-development of plies and engineering process changes.
Supports the vision and mission for the company.
Supports the company's commitment to maintaining a safe workplace and protect the environment by adhering to Company policy and various government regulations.
Complies with the GKN Compliance and Ethics Policy on Contracting with the United States Government in all areas of responsibility involving direct and indirect contracting with the United States Government.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed or assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Aerospace engineering, Mechanical engineering, Manufacturing engineering or Materials/Composite engineering or related degree required (an equivalent of five years related experience with CNC or nesting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree in a technical field).
2+ years of experience with CNC or nesting for composite material cutting or textiles industry
U.S. Person per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance.
- Knowledge or training in the following areas required: material properties, design, nesting
Manufacturing standards, process control techniques, developmental test equipment including SPC, gauging and instrumentation.
Knowledge of practical problem solving/8D and other root cause tools.
Training in areas in the manufacture of composite/metallic/carbon/fiber products or tooling.
Manufacturing processes, test methods and mathematics (including statistics).
AutoCAD experience (or equivalent). CATIA model review preferred.
Detect and report faulty equipment, defective material and any unusual conditions to the Engineering Manager or Facilities Manager as appropriate assessing risk in manufacturing processes (FMEA/PFMEA).
Design for manufacturing experience.
